Garlic has over 70 varieties grown in the world which are grouped into three major types:

SOFTNECK varieties are those most commonly found in supermarkets. The reason that you would see these varieties more frequently is that they have a much longer shelf lifethan the hard neck varieties, they are easier to grow and the beautiful garlic braids are made out of these varieties. You can recognize the soft neck varieties by the papery white skin and the abundance of cloves, often forming several layers around the central core.

Fresh Garlic can be kept up to 9 months when held near 0°C, or 2 months in ambient temperatures (20°C-30°C). The home refrigerator (typically 4°C) isn’t suitable for optimal long –term storage. At this temperature stimulates sprouting.

Store garlic bulbs in well-ventilated containers such as mesh bags. Storage life is 3-5 months under cool (16°C), dry, dark conditions.

Caution: Do not store in a plastic bag
